Day 1

Boston 10:45 AM 6.21.10

Troy and I are sitting on the steps of the Harvard library. We flew into Boston this morning at five am our time, eight am Boston time. We got to the airport last night and quickly realized that we had left Troy´s phone in the van. After a few minutes of frantic phone calls, we decided we shouldn´t worry about it. We got through security and to our gate with a little time to spare. We both got some sleep on our sux hour flight and our first mission in Boston was to find a place to store our packs. After that we came straight to Harvard and wandered around the beautiful campus, taking pictures like dorky tourists. We found the library and Troy walked up the steps, sat down, pulled out his backpacker guitar and started playing. So I pulled out my notebook and we are relaxing in the shade while parents and students wander around snapping picutres and listening to their orientation guides. OUr next mission is lunch. (Troy plays Gogol Bordello and a man with a baby comes up and says 'musica.' The baby watches Troy play.)

Boston Airport 6:12 PM

After leaving Harvard, Troy and I walked around and got some food. Then we walked down Massachusetts Street and over the Charles River. There are so many joggers and walkers and bicyclists even in the humid weather. We stood by the bridge and looked across at downtown Boston. We passed MIT before we crossed the river (we need to find out what smoots are). Then we walked for a bit along the river down a bike path. We found some benches in the shade and rested for a while. Troy and I took a nap and he played some guitar and shot a video while I was asleep. Then we continued walking toward Beacon Hill because there were several pubs that Troy wanted to checkout. We ended up walking the wrong way through these beautiful Boston neighborhoods. Then we walked down Commonwealth through this memorial park to the Public Gardens. For a big city, Boston is really mellow. After the park we walked up toward a pub and had some lunch there. We then walked all the way toward the coast and I got to see the Atlantic Ocean for the first time. Then we made our way back to the airport and we are now waiting for our 9:30 PM flight to Iceland. (Now Troy is sitting next to me playing funny songs that he makes up).
